Surrounded by lush mountains, Linz is on the Danube River, and although known for industry, has become a vibrant cultural hub. It was an important centre of the Holy Roman Empire and Emperor Friedrich III lived in the castle.
The old town centres on Main Square, site of the Christmas market and elaborate Trinity Column. St Martin’s Church is Austria’s oldest, and the largest is the new cathedral, much more elaborate than the old cathedral. On the surrounding streets are shops, restaurants and much of Booking.com’s Linz accommodation, including luxury city centre hotels and cheap guest houses near the train station.
A riverside park contains the Lentos modern art museum, colourfully lit at night. The excellent arts scene also encompasses the Linzer Landestheater, Brucknerhaus concert hall and the Ars Electronica Center which hosts its own festival.
The Design Center Linz event venue is near the industrial powerhouse – the Voestalpine steelworks, whose tour showcases the factory once supervised by Hermann Göring. A more chilling World War II reminder is Mauthausen concentration camp to the south-east.
Across the river are Johannes Kepler University and Pöstlingberg mountain, ascended by a tram that passes the zoo. At the top are a viewing platform, church and the children’s Grotto Railway, and south-west is Linz Blue Danube Airport.

we arrived on Sunday, it was bad for us because nothing was working from the shops, at 2 and 3 in the afternoon there are only a few restaurants where you can eat but really tasty and not so expensive.

Linz is an industrial town but has made a supreme effort to transform into a modern, smart city. It hosts many festivals, including the famous Ars Electronika in September. The tourist information is fine, although check if your festival badge includes free transportation for the duration of your stay. I paid for a Linz card, but I didn't really need it unless you take the Postlingberg tram to the nearby mountain.

I had a beautiful time.
I had a beautiful time. It remains a family favourite destination. In particular, my recently deceased mother loved to visit Linz as a child with her Austrian side of the family. My Hungarian parents met in Australia 65 years ago, were 62 years married, and regularly praised the dog friendly eateries in Linz. My second visit and I share their view. Hope to return. x😇😘+

Town Lido is a great place to cool off on a hot day - suitable for all. The complex has 2 kids pools, a 50m lane pool, a diving pool and 50m+ adult pool.

A very nice city, not as busy as Vienna or Salzburg, but we really liked it here. I recommend visiting the cathedral, it is very beautiful. Other main attractions were also interesting, especially seeing the Ars Electronica Center at night. I also recommend taking the tram to Pöstlingberg, there are nice views of the whole city.
As a restaurant, I recommend the typically Austrian Stiegl-Klosterhof. They cook excellently here and we also had a nice chat with the staff.

Linz is an industrial city, but has a beautiful old and cozy center. You won't find mass tourism, but this city on the Danube is quite interesting with some nice locations, such as the Hauptplatz and the riverside promenade. There is a very nice museum, Lentos, with an interesting collection including Schiele and Kokoschka.
We have stayed at 100s of apartments and hotels and found the host here to be in the top five! She was extremely hospitable, generous with complimentary food and drinks, responsive to messages and was sincerely interested in making sure we had a wonderful time in beautiful Linz. The apartment was well stocked with everything you could think of, and the host had clearly thought very carefully about what a traveller may need. We loved the location too—an easy walk to all the main sights, restaurants, shops, the river etc.
The location was excellent. Situated on the Danube, next to a big hotel and near the Lentos Museum and Brucknerhaus concert hall. Walking distance to the center of old town Linz is about 1km. There are supermarkets couple of streets over. The parking availability of the appartment is totaly functional and a must in Linz if you are staying more than day. The appartment is decorated in a 1950's style.
Very clean and modern. Rooms are a little small but very efficient. Breakfast excellent and was free. Staff very helpful. Recommended a good restaurant in walking distance. Parking is in a garage but if you go to the bottom of the garage there is an entrance right into the hotel. You have to drive around a bit to find the correct entrance because several hotels have entrances from same garage.
Well....the rooms are: cheap, small sized, clean, funny, as we expected, fair service (without stuff - automatic check in/out). The silent environment (like!), a hundred meters from a SPAR supermarket, 10 m walk to buying pizza and beer: plus points. Friendly people in Austria, fine hills, lakes, high quality beers. (We loved Salzkammergut, Salzburg, Linz, Innsbruck very much).
It was too good. Value for money. The location is in the central and the train just in front of the hotel. Very easy to go and back to Linz main train station. The shopping centre, halal food just nearby. The staff also very friendly and helpful. There is 24 hour cafe in the lobby if u want to have some coffee.
Room - very clean, comfortable. Recommended!
Friendly budget hotel but has everything what do you need to spend comfortable stay in Linz, including underground garage. To the city center from the hotel is 10 minutes walk. Room and bathroom are clean. Bed is comfortable, quite inspiring offer of the mini bar. Especially apricot liquor from the Valley of Wachau.
Free parking (or low cost - don't remember now)! parking right under the town square... great spacious room, nice and clean! amazing location! staff gave some great recommendations on what to do and right out the door of the hotel was the tram that takes you over the river and up a small mountain looking over Linz
Nothing. This place should be closed by Austrian government. It was horrible and creepy in every aspect. The reception was very bad, the lady there looks like she just woke up and she looks like she is forced to work there.
The room was super small and also the bathroom and wc very dirty and also very small..
A great hotel right in the center of Linz. There are lots of great cafes and restaurants nearby (including the fantastic rooftop bar on top of the hotel, one of our favourite bars in the city) as well as the tram and all the major city sites. We will be staying again the next time we visit.
This hotel has a good location in the city of Linz - a public small park is just in front of it. The hotel amenities are good and inviting. the breakfast room is big and the breakfast assortment is generous. The rooms are nice, big enough and calm. A good business stay, after all.
Central position in Urfahr in Linz. Pleasant room with comfortable bed and seating. The welcome was pleasant and informative. The hotel has its own traditional restaurant but is very close to a shopping centre with an incredible night-time offering of eateries. Parking is free.
Located in the center of the city, this hotel is quite close to the old city center as well. However, expect a 15-20 minutes walk till you get to the old Rathaus or the Mozart Haus.
The breakfast was very good, abundant and diversified. The staff was very friendly.
The breakfast was great. The rooms were a little small but that's to be expected in a budget hotel. Just a little warning - there is no A/C so keep that in mind when you are visiting in the summer. It's about a 5 minute walk to the bus that takes you into town.
A pleasant, clean, medium-sized hotel within a few minutes'walk of the main Linz railway station. The breakfast is included in the price and is really good. There is also a bar. Not sure if there is a restaurant.
Traditional Austrian room, very clean with a large bathroom. The staff were very friendly. For us the location was perfect as we didn't want to drive through the centre of the city.
The location, the rooms, parking both underground and outside. I loved the design and the architectural details. The bed was comfy and the entire hotel very clean.
Very nice hotel, with rooftop bar, which seems to be very popular in Linz. (good atmosphere and staff)
Issue with in-room TV were solved professionally.
