The Jewel in the Sicilian Crown
As you admire crystal-clear turquoise seas from a Taormina piazza swathed in vibrant pink blossom, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in paradise. The stunning location of this picturesque town is its crowning glory.
However, it’s not its only glory. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the Greek Theatre is also a triumph. Its largely intact seating offers wonderful views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Spine-tingling summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars also offer live music.
Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, whose clock tower and church are overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.
A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the centre of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. To the south-west is the long stretch of sand at Giardini-Naxos, and north is the bay by Mazzaró.
As you would expect of Sicily’s most beautiful resort, there is no shortage of Taormina accommodation on Booking.com, including 5-star hotels on the beach, town centre apartments and luxury B&Bs.

The charm, Greek Roman archeological history in full display at the Amphitheater, spectacular views of Mount Etna, traditions, Sicilian food and cuisine, friendly people, shopping of Corso Umberto, and the stunning natural beauty, views, and beaches like that of Baia Isola Bella are not to be missed!! Absolutely a must see when traveling to Sicily!!

Taormina is a 'must see' destination and has so much to offer. We visited Savoca nearby whilst staying in Taormina which was a real treat. We also had an excellent dinner one night in Giardini Naxos and were serenaded by a folk group who made the night magical. We will definitely be returning.

A marvellous location and unique natural beauty have earned this city the nickname of Pearl of the Ionian Sea. The distinctive city of Taormina in eastern Sicily is perched on a rock above sea level, with awe-inspiring views over Mount Etna and the coastline. Loved the location, lots to explore on foot with the Corso Umberto for shopping and eating, the Greek Theatre and the Botanical gardens for a quiet place to reflect and enjoy the views, and a play area for the children. The cable car is worth using to access the beaches which again are well serviced with food, drink and toilet facilities. We were unlucky with the weather so didn’t do as much as we would have liked . You’ve got to be aware the hotel is a long way away from centre so might not suit everyone. Good shuttle service though and good view from hotel. Taormina is very crowded

They saw that it is my husband birthday so they spoiled us with a wonderful cold ice champagne!!!! Wowwww!!! The breakfast is off course wonderful and the pool area also 5 star experience!!
